As Director of Research Development, Dr. Cummings will oversee the NRI's effort to reach outward to industry and academic representatives to create new models for university alliances and to shepherd these alliances on a broad interdisciplinary scale.
Dr. Cummings is seasoned in the academic, biotechnology and venture capital sectors with nearly 20 years experience. He has been an invited speaker and chairperson for a number of international and national conferences, is co-inventor on more than a dozen U.S. patents and patent applications and has authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters.
Previously, Dr. Cummings was a principal with Bay Partners, a 35-year-old venture capital firm. His investing activity at the company focused on early stage opportunities in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, as well as medical devices and healthcare information technologies. While there, he worked closely with several companies on product strategy and business development.
Prior to working at Bay Partners, Dr. Cummings was co-founder of EnVivo Pharmaceuticals Inc., a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to discovering and developing drugs for central nervous system disorders. Previously, he held research and project leadership positions at AGY Therapeutics and Genencor International.
